Since its mandate caters for the diverse needs of the population, the first professional programmes were introduced in 2001.

Today, NAMCOL offers a range of these programmes in various fields such as community development, business management, local government, early childhood development, youth work and community-based work with children and youth, additional to its secondary education programme. NAMCOL continues to make its programmes accessible for its customers and places a high priority on quality.

Namibian College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) Admission Requirements / Qualifications

For entry into secondary education programmes, proof must be provided that the learner has passed the same or a similar subject at a lower grade or standard. This applies to enrolment for both JSC and NSSC learners.

The National Examinations, Assessment and Certification Board (NEACB) of Namibia under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Cullture (MoEAC) has laid down requirements for registration to sit for the Grade
10 (JSC) and Grade 12 (NSSCO) examinations.

Accordingly, admission to courses offered by the College are subject to admission requirements as set out by the NEACB.According to the NEACB guidelines, JSC (Grade 10) first-time takers are not allowed to take more than three subjects with NAMCOL. A re-sit candidate is, however, allowed to enrol with NAMCOL for up to six Grade 10
subjects. Similarly, NSSCO (Grade 12) first time takers are not allowed to enrol with NAMCOL for more than three subjects.

Resit NSSCO learners are permitted to enrol for more than three NSSCO subjects per year. Since NAMCOL`s ourses and the national examinations are heavily subsidised by the government, it is our policy NOT TO enrol learners who do not meet the requirements of the NEACB and such leaners are thus not allowed to sit for the examination.

Namibian College of Open Learning (NAMCOL) Courses Offered

NAMCOL provides study opportunities for adults and out-of-school youth. The College`s core activity has traditionally been its programme of Secondary Education (SE), which enables those who cannot or do not wish to attend formal schools to study for either the Junior Secondary Certificate (JSC or Grade 10) or the Namibia Senior Secondary Curriculum (NSSC or Grade 12). Since 2004 Tertiary Level Programmes were introduced for students who wishes to pursue studies after Grade 12.

The following programmes are on offer:

* Secondary Education (SE)

* Tertiary Level Programmes (TLP)

* Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

Secondary Education

The Secondary Education programme is intended for learners who have been unable to gain admission to the formal education system for Grade 10 (JSC) or Grade 12 (NSSC). It is open to both out-of-school youth and adults. The objective is to allow these target groups to study at their own pace and convenience in order to complete their JSC and NSSC certificates.

Grade 10 (Junior Secondary Certificate)

Subjects on offer:

The following is the list of subjects on offer, with the respective examination subject codes for grade 10:

Grade 12 (Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate)

Subjects on offer:

The following is the list of subjects on offer, with the respective examination subject codes for grade 12:

* Tertiary Level Programmes (TLP)
Certificate in Education for Development (CED)
Certificate in Local Government Studies (CLGS)
Certificate in English Communications
The Bachelor of Arts in Youth Development Work (BYD)
Diploma in Youth Development Work (DYD)
Certificate in Community Based Work with Children and Youth (CWCY)
Certificate in Early Childhood Development (CECD)
Certificate in Business and Entrepreneurship (CBE)
Diploma in Education for Development (DED)
Diploma in Early Childhood and Pre-primary Education (DECPPE)
the Bachelor of Arts in Youth Development Work (BYD)
Certificate in Business and Entrepreneurship (CBE)

Technical, Vocational Education and Training Programmes (TVET)

Introduction

NAMCOL offers the following Technical, Vocational Education and Training Programmes:

Automotive Mechanics

Plumbing and Pipefitting

Welding and Metal Fabrication

Office Administration

The ultimate aim of these programmes is to alleviate the high unemployment rate in the country. NSFAS provides financial aid in the form of bursaries and loans to qualifying students at public universities and TVET colleges in South Africa.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about the NSFAS loan application process, from eligibility requirements to application steps and frequently asked questions.

📌 What is NSFAS?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government-funded financial aid scheme aimed at helping students from low- and middle-income households to access tertiary education without the burden of upfront fees.

NSFAS offers both bursaries and income-contingent loans:

Bursaries: For eligible students who meet academic and household income criteria (especially for TVET and university students).

Loans: For students who do not meet all bursary criteria or who are pursuing postgraduate qualifications not funded under bursary schemes.

✅ Who Qualifies for an NSFAS Loan?

To qualify for an NSFAS loan (especially for postgraduate students or programs not funded under the bursary system), you must:

Be a South African citizen.

Be financially needy, with a household income of less than R350,000 per
