David Stephen Koz is an American jazz saxophonist. His breezy playing style resulted in delivering best-selling seasonal and movie theme albums.

Koz is the son of father Norman Koz, his dad is a dentist and mother Audrey Koz who was a pharmacist. Born as the middle of three children, his brother Jeff is a musician as well and has a younger sister named Roberta. He was raised in a Jewish family, following Jewish religions and norms but was also taught to respect Christianity.

It was in his school that he discovered his love for saxophone and used to play it regularly in his music class. He used to perform in his school’s Jazz band and upon graduating in 1981, went to study mass communications at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He chose to become a musician graduating, something that he wasn’t a graduate in.

In a career that spans more than three decades, legendary and Grammy-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz returns to the road this Holiday Season for his 21st annual “Dave Koz Christmas Tour 2018”.Special Guests joining Dave this year will be: Mindi Abair, pop/blues saxophonist/singer who will be making her first Christmas Tour appearance; South African guitarist/singer, Jonathan Butler, who returns for another wonderful time with Dave; and Japanese keyboard sensation Keiko Matsui.
The tour, now in its 21st year, has received nationwide critical acclaim since its 1997 inception. After last year’s highly successful 20-year anniversary Christmas Tour, Koz’s 2018 Christmas Tour promises to bring fresh renditions of Christmas classics—as well as a Chanukah medley!—and hits from his respective catalog. Koz has logged nine No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Current Contemporary Jazz Album chart, including 2015’s Collaborations: 25th Anniversary Collection (Concord Records), and received nine GRAMMY nominations. His five-holiday albums include 2017’s Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas and 2014’s The 25th of December.

Dave Koz & Friends bringing sounds of jazz to Columbia’s Koger Center

Lovers of jazz music will soon be traveling to Columbia’s Koger Center to hear the smooth saxophone sounds of Dave Koz, along with other featured performers. The Summer Horns show will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Koz has been a musician for more than three decades, with an impressive array of honors and achievements: nine Grammy nominations, nine No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Current Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, numerous world tours, playing for multiple presidents, a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and other honors.

Recently, Koz has released one of the most exciting recordings of his career. Five years after recording their initial tribute to the great horn sections of soul, jazz and pop, Dave Koz and Friends Summer Horns II From A To Z reprise the all-star, crowd-pleasing format of the hit album.

Joining Koz at the show will be saxophonist Gerald Albright, Trumpeter Rick Braun, Vocalist Kenny Latimore, and Trombone/Vocalist Aubrey Logan.
